Our Head Start program is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada and is available for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and their families living in Hamilton. Registered Early Childhood Educators nurture the social, physical, emotional, spiritual and cognitive development of Indigenous children, while supporting and honouring their parents and guardians as their primary teachers. Head Start’s seasonal teachings and cultural curriculum enhance traditional knowledge acquisition. Indigenous languages, drumming, dancing and story telling are embedded into every aspect of the program and promote the formation of a strong cultural identity and sense of belonging. Child-led, land-based learning environments encourage meaningful connections with Mother Earth and the development of strong relationships with the natural world. Head Start is a full day program that runs from 9:00 am – 2:45 pm each day. Head Start has the following core components;
- Culture and Language
- Education
- Health Promotion
- Nutrition
- Social Support
- Parental Involvement
