Term: FULL-TIME, contract ending March 31, 2026; with possibility of renewal.

Hours: 40 hours per week, afternoon/evening, and some weekends to meet needs of community

Job Summary:

The Indigenous Youth Hub Team Lead will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the Indigenous Youth Hub’s activities, ensuring culturally sensitive and empowering programs for Indigenous youth. This role involves managing a team, establishing meaningful partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, developing initiatives that celebrate and preserve Indigenous culture while addressing the unique needs of the youth participants. The Team Lead will establish and maintain positive partnership with local service providers to meet the needs of the youth and the planning of monthly program schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Provide effective leadership to the Indigenous Youth Hub team, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Foster a culturally responsive and inclusive team culture that respects and integrates Indigenous perspectives.
  • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to team members, ensuring the successful execution of programs.
  • Cultural Program Development and Implementation:
  • Develop, plan, and implement culturally relevant programs and initiatives that celebrate and preserve Indigenous traditions.
  • Ensure that programs reflect the diversity of Indigenous cultures and address the unique challenges faced by Indigenous youth.
  • Collaborate with Elders and cultural advisors to incorporate traditional knowledge and practices into program design.

Community Partnership Development:

  • Establish and maintain authentic partnerships with local Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, elders, and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to ensure programs align with cultural values and traditions and meets the needs of the community we are serving.
  • Seek opportunities for joint initiatives and resource-sharing within the Hamilton region.
  • Community Engagement and Advocacy:
  • Act as an advocate for Indigenous youth, representing their interests in various forums.
  • Engage with the community to understand their needs and preferences, adapting programs to be culturally respectful and relevant.
  • Crisis Intervention:
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and support to youth facing urgent situations.
  • Work collaboratively with emergency services, if necessary, to ensure the safety and well-being of the youth.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the budget for Indigenous Youth Hub activities, ensuring effective use of resources and compliance with financial policies.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Implement systems for monitoring program outcomes and impact, with a focus on culturally appropriate evaluation methods.
  • Prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement.

Indigenous Youth Development and Support:

  • Provide mentorship and support to Indigenous youth participants, considering their unique cultural and personal circumstances.
  • Collaborate with team members to address the specific needs and challenges faced by Indigenous youth.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in Indigenous youth development, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a commitment to cultural sensitivity.
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and issues affecting Indigenous youth.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and networking abilities.
