Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg is looking for a dedicated Indigenous Outreach Worker to join our team!
Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg provides wholistic programs and service for Indigenous children, youth, families, and community that are rooted in culture and language. Our vision is to provide high quality programming that fosters identity formation and creates a sense of belonging.
About the Role
Reporting to the Early Years Programs Manager, the Indigenous Outreach Worker plays a vital role in supporting families through one-on-one case management, early learning programs, and cultural activities. You’ll connect families with services, facilitate educational sessions, and help ensure that Indigenous children have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Family & Community Support
- Provide one-on-one support tailored to individual and family needs.
- Assist Indigenous families in accessing early learning programs, cultural activities, and community services.
- Act as a liaison between families and Indigenous/non-Indigenous service providers to ensure appropriate support.
Program Development & Facilitation
- Plan and facilitate parent education sessions on early childhood development, parenting strategies, and cultural teachings.
- Develop and maintain a workplan and outreach calendar to engage with the community effectively.
- Organize culturally relevant events that promote Indigenous traditions and values.
Case Management & Advocacy
- Manage a limited caseload, assisting families in setting and achieving short-term goals.
- Offer guidance and referrals to additional community resources.
- Ensure all case management documentation is accurate and up to date.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with Early Years Service Providers and other community partners to strengthen support networks for Indigenous families.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold best practices in early childhood education.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and community events.
What You Bring to the Role Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience delivering culturally relevant services.
- Experience in case management is an asset.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Indigenous culture, history, and language.
- Knowledge of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit issues in an urban Indigenous setting.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse families, community partners, and service organizations.
- Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
Additional Requirements
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
- Food Handler’s Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to lift, push, and pull items over 50 lbs.
- Doctor-certified health assessment, up-to-date immunizations, and TB test.
