Registered Early Childhood Educator

Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg provides holistic programs and services for Indigenous children, youth, families, and community, rooted in culture and language. Our vision is: Strong Cultural Identity and Healthy Families.
Under the direction of the Early Years Manager and Leadership Team, Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) are responsible for engaging children in early learning activities in a licensed childcare setting.
Key Responsibilities Supervision & Safety
- Ensure the constant supervision, safety, and well-being of the children in your care.
Engagement & Inclusion
- Lead children and families in early learning and cultural activities.
- Promote and support the inclusion of all children in the early learning environment.
Program Planning & Delivery
- Plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate activities that foster creativity, learning, and development.
- Use pedagogical documentation to track and support children’s growth and learning.
Communication & Family Engagement
- Maintain open, regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure that all programs operate in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) regulations and local Public Health Department guidelines.
Professionalism & Development
- Participate in ongoing professional development and complete all mandatory training.
- Supervise, train, and mentor students and supply teachers.
Health & Safety
- Report potential workplace hazards and assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Participate in fire drills, emergency procedures, and ensure a clutter-free play environment.
Administrative Duties
- Submit timesheets bi-weekly and complete all required reports and documentation.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and assist in maintaining program routines and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency with administrative tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Experience with assistive technology, specialized equipment, and augmentative communication devices.
- Knowledge of Indigenous language, cultural traditions, and practices.
Working Conditions Environment
- Work primarily in an indoor classroom setting, with frequent outdoor activities such as field trips and outdoor play.
Interactions
- Interact with children, family members, staff, visitors, and local organizations.
- Occasional exposure to infectious waste or diseases.
Physical & Administrative Requirements
- Manual dexterity is required for computer use and presentations.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required for events, professional development, and meetings.
- Reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel.
Qualifications
- Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE).
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized college or university.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an early years environment, supporting inclusion and individualized needs.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Screen.
- Valid Infant First Aid/CPR Level C certification.
- Up-to-date medical vaccinations.
- Knowledge of Ontario Early Years Centre (OEYC) Best Practices.
- Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull items weighing over 50 lbs.
